Residence

July 13, 2024

You don’t know how much of an impact your place of residence, even if temporary has on you, your feelings, emotions and well-being.

We have stayed in several Airbnb, hotels and homes away from home long before this adventure, but the one difference was, that we had a home to go back to. Not having a home with all the comforts it provides, is unsettling. We miss our beds, pillows and blankets, our rooms of retreat and quiet we each had, and quite literally we miss the smell, of us. All these Airbnbs, VRBOs and hotels have their unique smell and are decorated to a specific taste (or lack thereof): good, bad or indifferent but not us.

Not sure if it’s Denmark, the happiest people on the planet, or if it’s our current place of residence but it is the closest we’ve felt like home: purposefully decorated, ambient lighting (of course, candles, everywhere; side fact: the danes burn the most candles worldwide), a beautiful outdoor space and the smell of tea, candles, flowers and clean linens (not us, but the best we could ask for).

I guess it has given me perspective on how important our next residence, our next home should be. And while on this adventure, we will have to forge on with our unfortunate bookings but we will definitely appreciate the ones that replicate home. And maybe we’ll take a few tips from these places to incorporate them into our own future residence. Like I tell the kids all the time, you need hard times to appreciate the good times. Now let’s soak in this temporary Copenhagen home!
